.:.:: Breaking news!
I've been having a running issue with my computer for the past month and a half or so. There was a major corruption of my primary HDD's MBR (Master Boot Record), making it unusable for an OS. Basically, the header crashed; I technically didn't lose any data, but I can't boot any of my Windows OS's from it.
And this, ladies and gents, is why I always use multi-boot systems. Vista 64-bit and Win-XP were on the main HDD, with a Fedora 7 and Ubuntu 9 OS on another(yay, I love you Linux! You have NEVER fucked-up on me like windows!). Further, there are two other HDD's; one is the "main storage," where all the windows applications (games, projects, artwork, etc.) is stored, while the other is the linux /home directory (which means I can reinstall the Linux OS as many times as I want and never lose anything).
While this means that all my precious works are perfectly safe, as well as countless other forms of data, I do not currently have the money to replace the fucked-up main HDD, leaving me to rely exclusively on Linux for the time being. I can browse the web, post, do some artwork (requires learning how to use Gimp as effectively as Photoshop, and Blender in place of Modo/Maya/3DSMax), and write documents, but I cannot play most games, such as EVE (its new graphics engine has some issues with WINE that I have yet to resolve).
This basically means I'm taking a hiatus from any games that require windows to run... until I can figure out how to get it to run on Fedora/Ubuntu without issue. It also puts a damper on my artwork, since I haven't figured out how to get my pagescanner to work with linux yet, nor have I had the time to tinker with the different programs, or get Photoshop to work with Linux (the latter requires some haggling, or a boot to the head).
.:.:: Outside of that...
A lot of time has been spent of late in private studies and reading. In so much as that, I've developed a fondness for certain local and college libraries: awesome selection of scientific archives and books!
Physics for Scientists and Engineers by Frederick J. Bueche has proven most helpful in providing the nitty-gritty of calculus-based physics, for example.
Unfortunately, some things are so esoteric that one could never expect a library to have something on it.
Like Basque (aka Euskara): one of the oldest living languages in the world, and no one knows where the fuck it came from, nor are there many people who speak it today. Except, of course, those who live in the politically autonomous region of Basque-country, between Spain and France in the Northern Pyrenees, along the coast. It's classified as a "language isolate," meaning that its origins evolved completely independently from any other language: it doesn't derive its origins from any other known language (even the extinct ones). Its origins are a mystery. Why the interest in it, aside from its inherent mystery? Well, it's part of my heritage
